The Aare rises in the Grimsel area and winds its way from the wild mountain landscape through the Haslital, the Brienzersee and Thunersee lakes and shapes the cityscape of the federal capital Bern, before finally flowing into the Rhine in Koblenz. By dividing the low valley floor between Meiringen and Innertkirchen, the Aare has eroded a barrel over thousands of years, creating a 1.4-kilometer, up to 200-meter deep canyon.
You can explore this natural spectacle as an individual guest, in a group, as a school cash or club on secure jetty and through tunnels. The trip offers a variety of impressions depending on the weather and is very well on sunny or hot days as a pleasant cooling, as well as in dubious or rainy weather. Depending on the weather you will experience a variety of moods in this precious natural wonder. A special highlight is the Aareschlucht visit from Thursday to Saturday in July and August in the evening, the evening lighting gives rise to an unforgettable mystical atmosphere.
You can combine impressions ideally with a dinner in the Restaurant Aare Gorge. The Aare Gorge is easily accessible by public transport from Interlaken or Lucerne via Meiringen. The western entrance of the Aareschlucht can be reached from Interlaken or from Lucerne shortly after the village of Meiringen. Here is a large parking for cars and coaches. The east entrance is located on the road from Grimsel and Sustenpass 1 km west of Innertkirchen. Again, there is parking for cars and good entry and exit for groups traveling with a coach.
