Most alpine adventures in the Jungfrau Region begin in Interlaken, which is renowned for its beauty and serves as the starting point for many trips. On the first day of your adventure, take some time to explore this famous resort town. Begin your journey with a leisurely walk along the emerald waters of the River Aare. Here, you can hop aboard an old-fashioned paddle steamer and cruise around the picturesque Lake Brienz, surrounded by the majestic mountains of the Jungfrau region. Once back on land in Interlaken, you can take a short stroll to the Harderbahn, a historic funicular dating back to 1908 that will take you to the top of Harder Kulm in just eight minutes. From the summit, you’ll be treated to breathtaking panoramic views of Interlaken, Lake Thun, Lake Brienz, and the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau mountains.
Get ready for day two of your Jungfrau Travel Pass adventure, which begins with a scenic train ride from Interlaken to Grindelwald. You’ll quickly see why this idyllic village is on everyone’s Swiss must-see list. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by charming alpine chalets and a stunning mountain backdrop that is perfect for taking photos. Take a leisurely stroll through the village to reach the Firstbahn, where you can board a gondola that will take you up to the summit of First at 2,167 meters. First is known as the “Top of Adventure” and offers a wide range of activities to satisfy any adrenaline junkie, from exhilarating zip lines to a breathtaking cliff walk that will test your fear of heights.
Today is all about exploring charming alpine towns and experiencing the beauty of cascading waterfalls. Begin your day by taking a train from Interlaken, and within just 20 minutes, you’ll arrive in the stunning village of Lauterbrunnen, which is perfect for snapping some unforgettable photos. You’ve probably seen social media posts showcasing Lauterbrunnen’s iconic Staubbach Falls (arguably the most well-known of the valley’s 72 waterfalls), but it’s even more impressive up close. For more breathtaking waterfalls, head over to the Trümmelbach Falls on the other side of the valley. There, you’ll witness ten powerful glacial waterfalls thundering through the inside of a mountain, which is an awe-inspiring sight. After exploring Lauterbrunnen, take a short gondola or train ride to the car-free villages of Wengen and Mürren, which offer stunning views of the surrounding mountain peaks and the Lauterbrunnen Valley.
Take a break from the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy a leisurely day trip to Schynige Platte. The train journey from Wilderswil to the top of Schynige Platte may only cover 7.25 kilometers, but it takes a leisurely 70 minutes to complete. The slow pace is perfect for taking in the stunning scenery, which includes views of Lake Brienz, Lake Thun, and the majestic Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau mountains. Once you reach the summit, there are plenty of things to keep you occupied. Take a stroll through the Botanical Alpine Garden, which features over 650 species of plants, or simply relax and admire the panoramic views from the restaurant. If you visit during the summer months, you can also enjoy traditional Swiss music as alphorn players perform daily between 11 AM and 2 PM.
